Municipal Enforcement/Animal Control Officer

Job Description:

  • The Officer is responsible for ensuring public awareness and enforcement of the City of Red Deer Dog Bylaw, Cat Bylaw and the Parks and Public Facilities Bylaw as well as enforcing other Municipal Bylaws from time to time that our Agency is contracted to enforce.
  • Responsible for investigational work involving the enforcement of Municipal Bylaws and processing bylaw violations and complaints.
  • Dealing with the public and using judgment to make quick and pertinent decisions based on the knowledge of law and Municipal regulations.
  • Conduct highly visible foot and vehicle patrols in the City of Red Deer for the purpose of preventing and detecting violations.
  • Compiling and maintaining records in relation to all enforcement activities, tickets and provide monthly and yearly statistics.
  • Provide evidence in Provincial Court in relation to prosecuting outstanding charges.
  • Responsible for dealing with the apprehension of stray domestic animals and some wildlife, impoundment, licensing of animals.
  • 40-hour work period which includes some weekends, evenings.
  • On-call rotation every three weeks for emergencies during after office hours and weekends/statutory holidays.
Qualifications:

  • This position requires highly developed verbal and written communication skills and being capable of demonstrating strong dispute resolution skills.
  • Must possess a completed High School diploma and post-secondary education in a related enforcement field.
  • A clean Criminal Record.
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers license with a clean driver abstract (Minimum of demerits).
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Access, Excel and other reporting software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of domestic animal breeds and the handling of animals an asset.
  • Capable of performing the physical requirements of the position which includes heavy lifting, running, standing for extended periods of time and the ability to handle aggressive animals.
  • Candidates with a minimum of one year experience in a comparable position (law enforcement/bylaws etc.), and/or post-secondary education in criminal justice or law enforcement will be considered.
  • Candidates with additional training that includes First Aid/CPR, Baton and Pepper Spray Certification is an asset.

Alberta Animal Services offers a competitive wage based on experience and qualifications. Base wage: $24.00 - $28.00 an hour depending on experience/qualifications.

Animal Care Specialist

Job Description:

Want to work with Animals? Want to make a difference in your community? Alberta Animal Services is seeking an Animal Care Specialist we are looking for a dedicated individual who is passionate about the welfare and care of animals!

This position requires the Attendant to be constantly providing care and enrichment for all animals brought into the facility. The biggest part of this position is the animal husbandry. You need to be sure the animals are happy and healthy upon entering and leaving our facility. The goal is to make the animal feel the least amount of stress while being here. You will also be dealing with stressful situations (ie: injured animals, sick animals, aggressive animals, and large volumes of animals to care for, Alberta Animal Services can house up to 70 animals at one time.

Main Duties:

  • Cleaning Dog and Cat Kennels
  • Cleaning shelter areas
  • Administering medications
  • Animal restraint
  • Reception
  • Dispatch

Apart from animal husbandry this job requires you to have exceptional customer service skills and can work in a receptionist environment. Examples answering phones, helping customers, impounding animals, dispatching compliant calls and dealing with difficult people. Here at Alberta Animal Services we are extremely busy we are non-stop on our feet. We need someone who can multitask and manage themselves.

You would be required to work weekends.

Shifts would be as followed:

  • Friday 8-5
  • Saturday 7-3:30
  • Sunday 9-2
  • Monday 8-5
  • Tuesday 8-5
  • Wednesday Off
  • Thursday Off

Adoption Specialist

Job Description:

  • Daily cleaning and maintaining of adoption center, feeding and cleaning dogs.
  • Dealing with customers, showing animals and handling adoption paperwork.
  • Assisting with monthly in store events.
  • Basic grooming of animals (nails and brushing)
  • Giving medications and keeping management informed of any situations with animals, staff or facility.

Qualifications:

  • Communication/ Customer Service- You must be comfortable speaking with strangers and able to give excellent customer service. You will be representing Alberta Animal Services in monthly events. On a daily basis, you are the first impression to the customer.
  • Self Management - A very important part of the adoption specialist is self-management. You must be able to manage your time effectively. You will have to juggle your daily tasks between, customers and adoptions. This role requires your ability to find the right balance so your customers are happy and your work gets done in a timely manner.

We are looking for people who have some experience working with animals, pet stores, boarding kennels or vet clinics. This job is physically demanding and requires you to always be busy. You will also be required to work weekends, evenings and statutory holidays!
