Responsible Pet Owner

Alberta Animal Services encourages you to be a responsible pet owner

Under Control

As a pet owner, it is your responsibility to keep your cat and/or dog on your property. When you’re off your property, your pet must be under your control at all times.

The City of Red Deer Dog and Cat Bylaws outline that you must:

  • License your dog yearly when living within City limits.
  • Ensure your pet isn’t running at large
  • Scoop the poop. For the health and safety of citizens and your dog, please carry a bag with you and clean up any waste created by your dog.
  • In off-leash parks, be in control of your pet at all times.
  • Control your dog’s barking. Excessive barking so that it disturbs someone is considered an offence.

Did you know?

According to the City of Red Deer Dog Bylaw, dogs are not permitted:

  • within playground areas
  • on school property
  • near picnic tables

Failure to ensure your pets are under your control at all times can result in fines.

Red Deer Spay and Neuter Program

If your dog has a current City license, you can apply for the free Spay/Neuter program. If your application is approved, you will be contacted with more details. Find out more by visiting www.reddeer.ca
